Surface and limits: 8.511.965 km2s, almost occupy half of the surface of South America. It is limited the north by Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, French Guayana and the Atlantic Ocean; to the east by the Atlantic Ocean; to the south by Uruguay; to the west by Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru and to the northwest by Colombia. The republic has common border with all the countries of South America except Chile and Ecuador, its border lines are of 14,691 km, 7,941 km extension of its levels. Brazil is the fifth greater country of the world. Its maximum distance of north to the south is of 4,345 km and this the west of 4,330 km.

Although the metropolitan regions of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro count on a greater number of inhabitants, by all the enormous growth undergone in their environs and proximities. The Metropolitan Region of Sao Paulo counts with 20.5 million inhabitants (est. 2005) in a surface of 8,051 km2s. This way, one becomes the greatest megalopolis in extension and population of Latin America, putting itself around New York or Tokyo. The Metropolitan Region of also over-populated Rio de Janeiro, counts with 11.6 million inhabitants.

Capital: Brasilia, previously had been Salvador de Bahia from 1549 to 1763 and Rio de Janeiro from 1763 to 1960 that became Brasilia.

Official language: Portuguese, although the Portuguese who is spoken in Brazil owns an intonation and own accent that him difference del that is spoken in Portugal.
