History

1945: One is based Portuguese Aerial Transports the 14 of March and the following year it received his first airplanes, Douglas DC-3 Dakota.

1946: Is abre commercial forward edge, from Lisbon to Madrid. The 31 of December of that same year was abierta the Imperial Air line, between Lisbon and Luanda (capital of the then colony of Angola) and Lourenço Marquess (present Maputo, in also the colony of Mozambique), with a total of twelve scales.

1947: Is abre domestic forward edge, between Lisbon and Oporto, this year was acquired the C-54 Skymaster

In the meantime, APT began to fly to London (the United Kingdom), Paris (France) and Seville for, already in the decade of the 50, abrir the route to Morocco.

1953: APT was privatized and two years later were bought two Super airplanes Constellation with which Marquess was reduced to the duration of the trip between Lisbon and Lourenço.

1962: The first jet plane entered in good condition, a Caravelle that made the Lisbon-Madrid trip. The following year the reactors also were gotten up to the African routes.

1966: The line to Rio de Janeiro was inaugurated, was the 17 of June like commemoration of the arrival in the same day of 1922 to Guanabara of the hydroplane Santa Cruz, to the controls of Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho, trip that supposed the first aerial passage of the South Atlantic. Also in that year the route to New York was inaugurated.

1967: APT happened to be the first European airline company in operating exclusively with reactors. Two years later it was born Aerial Transports Continentais (TAC), a subsidiary of APT destined to the service of airtaxi.

1970: APT received from hands of the Portuguese government the Medal to the Tourist Merit by served to the tourism of the country. Two years later, APT was awarded again, this time with the Publituris trophy to the best Portuguese airline company, which would repeat in 1973 and 1974.

1975: The company was nationalized, happening at the hands of the Portuguese Republic. Four years later the company adopted a new image, happening to be called APT - Air Portugal. Consequently it was created a new logo and new uniforms.

Decade of the 80: APT emphasized like company of maintenance and repair of apparatuses of other international companies, being one of the most recognized of the world in this aspect. In 1984 the branch Air Portugal Tours was constituted, touroperadora company, and in 1985 Museum APT was inaugurated. In this same year other branchs, Air Atlantis, company dedicated to the operations charter, and LAR were created (Linhas Aéreas Regionais), TAC substitute.

Decade of the 90: APT was transformed into joint-stock company, with mainly public capital. Meanwhile, it underwent financial problems and in 1994 the Strategic Plan and of Economico-financial Cleaning for the recovery of the company was sent. Five years later it was sent to the set of Strategic Directions for the APT of the future call “Modernization and Recovery of APT�.

2000: YES, company of flights was based charter, with a 51 percent of the capital into the hands of APT.

2001: APT Air Portugal happens to be the European airline company with greater presence in the Brazilian market, with daily flights to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Recife and Fortaleza.

2005: Agreeing with 60º anniversary of the company, one becomes to change the image: a new logo is created and happens to denominate APT Portugal. Also, filial charter YES, due to the bad image that it had in the market, is turned into White (Code IATA: 8X Code ICAO: WHT Callsign: White).

2006: They buy the first A330, beginning therefore a process of computerization of the fleet.
